A WONDERFUL SIMPLE EXERCISE TO GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD + IN YOUR (HE)ART
WHY DO YOU EXPERIENCE OVERWHELM?
Do you find yourself lost in to-do lists from time to time? Feeling lost and lonely? Doubtful? Trapped inside your racing feelings?
You're in that not-so-happy place called Overwhelm. The state of: "I desire something I can't have right now. But I truly need it'!'
Time just for you, money, love, security, calmness, insight, abundance, a worry-free-day off, an empty house with a kind cleaning fairy...
I know exactly how you feel.
Your brains works just so much faster than the 'average' person - don't bite me this is very non-scientific - it's just how we experience it. Right?
While writing your blogpost you suddenly come up with 800 different very important facts that need to be part of your blog post.
While writing the first art assignment for Free your Happy Art I needed to get some back ground information on Transformation Masks.
At the end of the day I had read everything I could get my hands on about the Kwakwaka'wakw, the Indegiounous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast of America who created these wonderful masks.
I completely lost track of what I was supposed to do.
We Sensitive Empaths are knowledge sponges.
We absorb the moods of other people, noise and smell - raise your hand if you ever switched seats at a movie theater because the woman next to you wore just too much parfum -?
We also absorb knowledge and process it with the speed of light.
And all those thoughts and ideas need to find a place inside our brains.
The result? Overwhelm!

OVERWHELM WHAT IS IT?
Overwhelm is pretty much the most common HSP and sensitive peeps complaint. It’s also pretty vague and fuzzy.
What does it mean to you?
• Do you dislike where you are in your life?
• Do you cry a lot or experience grief?
• Are you angry and frustrated and trying to keep it in?
• Do you have ZERO time to yourself and are buzzing with stress?
• Are you afraid?
• Are you feeling uninspired and unhappy with your life?
• Do you long to follow your bliss, instead of resisting the calling of your soul?
Since overwhelm is such a vague umbrella term. We need to look into the feeling itself.
Instead of crying out: Argh I’m horribly overwhelmed you use your qualities to gently step out of the feeling and into reflecting.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO
GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD & IN YOUR (HE)ART
- Your pen, or pencils, or some watercolor paint
- A sheet of paper or a Sketchbook
- 5 minutes of your precious time
secret tip:
No pencils around? Just pretend, really, I promise you it works like magic.
THIS IS WHAT YOU DO
You sit down. Breathe in…Breathe out and say - preferably out loud -:
"Okay what the fuck is going on”
Yes, I said the F word. Doing so in a calm and elegant manner releases at least 10 kilos of each shoulder.
Also. It brings clarity, a lot of insight and kindness. Kindness to you.
Do a body check. Where does it hurt?
I knew I was stressed out when my right wrist and hand were hurting. It meant I’d been typing like a maniac. It meant I felt scared. It meant I was afraid people didn't like what I'm doing.
It was an awful feeling.
We need to get speficic. Being specific is a wonderful antidote to the fuzziness.
Get your pencils and paper and paint, or whatever is within reach (real or imaginary)
Don't overthink it. Close your eyes and say out loud:
- "What I feel is…."
- "What's going on is……"
- "What I like to do about it is…."
All the time you give your hand total control over your pencil and paper.
Let your hand move wherever it needs to move.
Keep breathing.
You will notice how the tension releases in your body and face.
Tears might come.
Open your eyes and look at your paper. What happened there?
Is there a message for you? Invite the lines to talk to you.
- Do you desire to dance and release some tension?
do it now
- Long for some inner guidance?
get it
- Need perspective on your talents?
take every day 5 minutes to write in your diary
TAKE TIME TO LOOK AT YOUR SKETCH.
WHAT IS IT TELLING YOU?
For us Sensitive Peeps getting to know ourselves is paramount. Not just with your head, but also with with your heart, body, soul and mind.
Understanding yourself is like feeling ugly and looking in the mirror and finally see how beautiful you are.
The women I work with know how to use their gifts. They realize their dream and connect with their inner joy while creating amazing stuff.
WHAT IS YOUR NEXT STEP
Is it immediately clear to you what the meaning of your drawing is ? Great! Go and practice it.
