Fail More in Business

What was your last Really Big Mistake?

I don't mean standing in a very crowded supermarket on a Saturday morning realizing you forgot your wallet, bag and grocery list. And by the way - you totally forgot you're still wearing your very old slippers.

I mean Epic Big Huge Gigantic Mistakes!

It's very soothing for the soul to share failures. Big Mistakes are our Big Lessons in Life. This morning I was reminded of my Big Mistake by Facebook (thanks guys ;-) when an image popped up from June 6, 2012 with the box of signed letters I was about to send to clients.

You see, back then I had become a partner in a corporate Coaching and Consultancy firm. I had paid a lot of money and – more importantly – given an unaccountable amount of long dreadful hours to a business I didn’t love. At all.

Why? Because I was invited to become a partner. And I had took the bait. Back then I coached women in my wonderful Blue summer house who wanted to realize their dreams. I loved doing that. But I missed something and wanted to make a Real Impact.

And when the invitation came I dismissed my intuition – that screamed: “Do NOT Do It!“. There was nothing wrong with my business partners. Nothing wrong with that firm. They simply strongly disapproved of anything that was even slightly out of the box.

No marketing, no creativity, no fun, no trust your gut feeling and follow your bliss.

But I reckoned I could blend in if I really wanted to. But I had chosen the wrong path. I had lost the connection with my Creative Soul.

I had denied my Sensitivity, my Fierce Free Spirit and Wholeheartedness access to me. I had lost myself!

So on that day in June, 4 years ago, I sat at the table of that huge 19th century villa and the former owners, a 65-something posh - very well off - old money couple, treated me like I was a stupid ignorant girl, instead of a highly experienced woman in her 40's.

They told me off, bossed me around and I didn't say: 'Hey back off guys! What's going on here?'

I tiptoed around them until I felt this was life and business as it was supposed to be.

The thought that this was the opposite of being an empowered woman didn't even occur to me!

This is what happens when you think you only deserve a certain amount of joy.

When you think you don't have the power to change your situation. When you think: 'I have to take life as it comes. I just have to accept the situation'.

So now years later, I can see how easily I could have continued working in a firm that only represented 15 percent of who I am, with people who preferred me to remain size XS instead of Me Being a Happy Size XL.

Though it was one of the biggest mistakes ever it also was the most powerful lesson I learned.

Wherever you are at this moment in your life, never stay put in a situation where you are not 100% welcome. It doesn't matter if you created this situation yourself - as I had done - or whether it's something that simply happened to you.

Learn, lean in, fight, get out, play, hustle, accept, dream, act, love, grow your way to a place where you are unified with You!

Get help!

Next week I will tell you how I changed my own situation. It involves A Stubborn Muse who didn't give up on me. A Coach who believed in me, Wonderful friends and family and a LOT of hard work.

See you next week and don't forget to share your Big Mistakes in the Facebook group!

Lots of Love,

Esther
